Charles N. Saatjian is an associate attorney at Kennedy & Souza, APC, whose litigation career spans over two decades, during which time he has excelled in providing a zealous and pragmatic approach representing and defending a vast array of subcontractors, material suppliers and general contractors in complex construction defect cases.  Charles has tried cases to verdict, when compromise and resolution is not an option, and has successfully resolved hundreds of cases at mediations, mandatory settlement conferences, and when feasible, informally in the early stages of litigation, utilizing his proficient negotiation skills that are well respected by mediators, Special Masters and opposing counsel alike.

Prior to joining Kennedy & Souza, Charles worked for over twelve and a half years as staff counsel for a major world-wide insurer, preceded by work as panel counsel for several insurers, where he implemented pragmatic legal strategies involving collaborative efforts with trade and claims clients, leading to countless resolutions/dispositions mutually beneficial to both trade clients and insurance carriers.

Charles has primarily defended clients involved in residential construction disputes, ranging from tract homes to high-end, custom-built, single-family homes, situated in Southern, Central and Northern California, as well as clients involved in the construction of commercial buildings, including developments subject to OCIP/Wrap policies.  Charles diligently works with each client to obtain the most reasonable, cost-effective disposition, ensuring that each client’s needs, goals and objectives are met via constant collaboration, focusing on all pertinent details from the outset, including pre-litigation fact gathering and dialogue with adverse counsel, compliance with SB800 protocol when applicable, through the end stages of litigation, and when settlements are solidified, he works steadfastly to ensure all agreed upon terms are clearly contained in Release documents, fully protecting his client’s interests.

Charles earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law & Society from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and later earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Whittier Law School.  While in law school, Charles served as a judicial extern for a United States District Court Judge, served as a judicial extern for a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, and earned an American Jurisprudence Award in Corporations.
